Community understanding is pivotal to improving the general care and attention to those with mental health concerns. Moreover, it is important to raise awareness of how to maintain mental wellness. Presentations to community organizations and businesses, are available for a minimum of an hour, and are offered to assist in sharing information to promote mental wellness. These presentations may be provided live, or through the popular use of telecommunication, such as Zoom or WebEx. Although the topic of mental health has been stigmatized, everyone endures components of mental health concerns daily. These presentations can be intimate conversations with a few, or large informational sessions with many, varying from stress management to a specific disorder. If there is a need for additional time, this can be discussed, for a varied fee.
It is understandable that most people will have general questions about mental health concerns, or a new diagnosis, so this provides individual psycho-education. A standard of 3, hour-long, interactive educational sessions will be offered per module. The module will review the fundamental components of the diagnosis, and ways to manage wellness in consideration of the specific diagnosis. Additionally, information will be added specific to the identified needs of the individual. These sessions will typically be offered through the innovative use of technology, using Zoom or Webex, so people have the opportunity to remain in the comfort of their own homes while learning. In-person services are also available if preferred, but rates will vary. Additional educational sessions are available for an additional fee per session.

Those who offer support to those experiencing mental health concerns, such as family members, friends, and nursing services, can often benefit from being informed caregivers. These 3, hour-long, standard sessions per module, will provide information respective of being a caregiver. Additionally, information will be added specific to the identified needs. These sessions will be typically offered through the use of technology, using Zoom or Webex, so people have the opportunity to remain in the comfort of their own homes while learning in this interactive format. In-person services are also available if preferred, but rates will vary. Additional educational sessions area available for an additional fee per session.

There are times when we are uncertain of exactly what may be needed, and for that, general consultation may be helpful. This is a conversation lasting a maximum of 45 minutes to assess which, if any, of the services may be beneficial. If additional time is needed, it is available for an additional fee.
Here is a sampling of offered presentations /modules. Topics can be altered for various needs, but those with an (*) indicate the topic is better suited for a presentation, as opposed to a module. Presentations and modules can also be tailor-made. A consultation will allow for a discussion about the concern, and tailored educational services may be provided based on the discussion.
Anxiety can be misunderstood as not being impactful to daily functioning. This is an inaccurate assumption because excessive or persistent anxiety, and/or fear, can stifle one's abilities to obtain personal goals. People who experience clinical anxiety may have symptoms such as, but not limited to, excessive worry, restlessness, and panic attacks to include shortness of breath or chest pains. Since it may take time to determine the trigger for these symptoms, this may keep the person from leaving the home, for fear of these symptoms occurring at an inopportune time. This circular situation can impede upon someone's functioning. This module will discuss the impact of clinical anxiety in day to day functioning.
Bipolar Disorder has become more well known as a common mental health concern. Various celebrities have presented their candid experiences of living with the symptoms of this mood disorder. The symptom presentation that is most connected to this disorder is the fluctuation between a depressive state and a manic state. This module will discuss various aspects of the diagnosis and how it may be more commonplace than people may be aware.
An abundance of research has indicated that racism can not only negatively impact the person who experiences it directly, but it can also impact generations to come. This presentation discusses some of the ways that systematic racism has increased mental health concerns in the African American community.
With a pandemic surging throughout the world, amongst concerns of systemic racism and social unrest, people are looking for ways to maintain mental wellness. During a time of various unknowns and feelings of being overwhelmed, it is important to focus on what can be done when so much is out of one's control. This presentation speaks about today's issues and ways to maintain self-care.
Most people may experience aspects of depression at different times in life. Although this is true, there are instances when symptoms of depression may go beyond occasional sadness. When sadness is coupled with symptoms such as, no longer taking care of personal hygiene, staying in bed days at a time, irritability, and/or excessive tearfulness, this may be a time to take pause, and consider the possibility of clinical depression. This module will discuss the difference between feeling depressed at times and a clinical diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder. As well as what to do if there appears to be a shift in symptom presentation toward a clinical mood disorder.
In a society that emphasizes the importance of working diligently daily, it is important to determine how much time to expend toward work-life, versus personal-life. This is often referred to as creating balance between the two. Realistically, it may be more fair to say that, since things continue to change throughout life, it is rather about determining a comfortable ratio. This is important, but often complicated. This module will discuss strategies for creating this ratio between work-life and personal-life, and the impact of work stress on mental health.
In life, everyone will experience loss. Loss can come in many forms, such as loss of a loved one, loss of a pet, and/or loss of a job. Some may have more difficulty managing loss than others. At that time, a person may experience complicated grief and need more practical intervention than usual. This module will discuss grief and loss, as well as typical aspects of grief, and when more intervention may be needed.
PTSD is associated with veterans, but it is estimated that 70% of adults in the United States have experienced some form of trauma. All trauma will not result in PTSD, but it is important to be aware of when situations are becoming unmanageable and need clinical assistance. When someone has experienced trauma, or has learned of a traumatic experience, some symptoms that may present are distressing dreams about the event, intrusive thoughts, sleep disturbance, and/or difficulty concentrating, to name a few. This module will discuss trauma and aspects of PTSD.
Many people have been charged with the task of working endless hours as frontline staff to manage and treat the Coronavirus. These everyday heroes have made many sacrifices, but are rarely afforded the opportunity to attend to their own concerns. This is that opportunity to discuss, not only the concerns specific to frontline workers, but also ways to manage the stressors that arise.
One who has a diagnosis of Schizoaffective Disorder presents with symptoms of both Schizophrenia and a mood disorder. Some symptoms that are notable may be delusions, hallucinations, depression, and/or mania. This module will discuss the interplay between the two diagnoses, and how symptoms present in this psychotic disorder.
Many people have heard of Schizophrenia, and it is often perceived as a disorder that only touches those from a select group of individuals. In actuality, this psychotic disorder touches various people, irrespective of socioeconomic status, race, or gender. Symptoms that are notable for this diagnosis are delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized or erratic behavior. This module will discuss the truths of the disorder, as well as debunk some of the myths.
